Tlaquepaque Mexican Nesting Bowls, Rabbit & Nopal Motif, Set of 4
A graduated set of four hand-thrown Tlaquepaque pottery bowls from Jalisco, Mexico, each painted on a warm cream slip ground with a green-banded rim and a folk vignette worked in cobalt blue, green, ochre, and rust. The largest carries a seated rabbit beside a nopal cactus; the smaller bowls repeat the desert-plant theme with prickly-pear pads, blossoms, and stylized foliage across a green ground line. Loose, confident brushwork and the softly craze-glazed surfaces mark these as traditional Tlaquepaque ware rather than tourist reproduction.
The base of the largest bowl bears a painted "A" together with the Tlaquepaque, Mexico maker mark. Nesting sets like these were kitchen and table workhorses in mid-century Mexican and border households, valued as much for the painterly decoration as for daily service. The four sizes stack neatly for storage and display together as a graduated group.
CONDITION
Good with age-appropriate wear throughout. Overall crazing to the glaze consistent with the ware, along with minor glaze nicks, scattered flaking to the footrims, and light surface soiling. No cracks or repairs noted.
