Pair of Brass Candlestick-Form Table Lamps with Pleated Shades, 1960s–70s
A matched pair of substantial brass table lamps in the candlestick form popular through American Hollywood Regency and transitional traditional interiors of the 1960s and '70s. Each rises from an octagonal stepped base through a turned baluster shaft with a bulbous mid-section, a faceted disk collar, and a tall cylindrical neck to the harp. Original pleated fabric shades are included with both. Construction is solid or heavy-gauge brass — each lamp weighs approximately 10 lbs 12 oz, ruling out the hollow brass-plated zinc used on lower-grade production lighting. Bases retain their felt padding. No maker's marks are present on the undersides.
The form and quality are consistent with Stiffel lighting. At roughly 34 inches to the finial, the pair carries real presence and suits large rooms, entry consoles, or flanking a bed or sofa — a scale that reads as intentional rather than incidental. Pairs of this size and weight consistently outperform singles.
CONDITION
Good, with age-appropriate wear. Brass surfaces show light scratching, minor rubbing, and scattered spotting of rust and oxidation, most noticeable near the base edges. Both lamps have been tested; one is fully functional, while the other requires rewiring before use. Original pleated shades are intact with light soiling consistent with age.
