Waterford Crystal "Metra" Carafe — Modernist Hourglass Design, Made in Ireland
A Waterford Crystal "Metra" carafe in lead crystal, made in Ireland. The design marks a clean break from Waterford's traditional cut-crystal repertoire: a smooth, uncut hourglass profile rising from a broad triangular base to a flared square rim, drawing its interest from form and light refraction rather than surface cutting. The neck retains the original "Waterford Crystal / Made in Ireland" seahorse medallion sticker, and the interior base carries the acid-etched WATERFORD mark. Material is confirmed lead crystal per the base label (item no. 108352).
The Metra line dates to Waterford's late-1990s/early-2000s move into contemporary minimalist design, aimed at buyers looking beyond the Lismore and Colleen cut patterns. This example comes with its original retail box in the "W" branding style of that period and an unused packet of Waterford protective tabs — a plus for gift-market buyers and completists. Confirmed Irish production distinguishes it from later overseas manufacturing runs. Functions as a wine or water carafe; no stopper (as designed).
