Pier 1 Wicker & Hardwood Barrel-Back Lounge Armchairs, Pair, c. 1990s–2000s

A matched pair of Pier 1 Imports wicker and hardwood lounge armchairs in the barrel/tub-back form, made in the late 20th century and consistent with Pier 1's Indonesian-sourced wicker collections of the 1990s through early 2000s. The fan-shaped backs rise from wicker bodies woven over an internal rattan and wood frame, finished in a dark natural stain. Contrasting dark-stained hardwood arm capsterminate in sculpted, spoon-shaped ends above turned hardwood legs. With cushions removed, the solid wood seat platform is exposed. No maker's marks are present; the Pier 1 attribution is confirmed by the consignor.

The style targeted the casual tropical/colonial interior trend Pier 1 marketed heavily during this period, and the contrast of dark kubu-style wicker against turned wood trim reads more refined than standard painted wicker. Each chair retains its original loose-fill tufted white cotton-duck seat cushion. Sold as a pair — two pieces total.

CONDITION

Good overall. Finish wear and loss present throughout the wicker and on the hardwood arm caps, including light scratching to the arm surfaces. Frames are structurally sound and the wicker bodies are intact. Both cushions show surface staining from use and need cleaning.
