Franciscan Desert Rose Serving Set — Salad Bowl, Chop Plate & Two Platters
A four-piece serving group in Franciscan Desert Rose, the hand-painted wild-rose pattern introduced by Gladding, McBean & Co. in 1941 and produced at the company's Glendale, California pottery. Each piece carries the pink open-rose sprays, green foliage, and brown embossed vine border over a warm cream body, with the pieces backstamped "FRANCISCAN — HAND DECORATED — GLADDING, McBEAN & CO. — Made in California U.S.A. — OVEN-SAFE."
The lot pairs a scalloped-rim salad bowl and a round chop plate with two handled oval platters in graduated sizes. Desert Rose remains the most widely produced American dinnerware pattern of the twentieth century, and these serving forms are the pieces that anchored a table — the bread board, the roast platter, the salad centerpiece. All four are hand-decorated, so the placement and brushwork of each rose spray varies piece to piece.
CONDITION
Excellent with no damage. Glaze is clean and bright across all four pieces with crisp decoration and intact embossed borders.
