Franciscan Desert Rose Divided Vegetable Dish & Gravy Boat, Gladding McBean
Two serving pieces in Franciscan Desert Rose, the hand-decorated pattern introduced by Gladding, McBean & Co. in 1941 and among the most enduring American dinnerware lines of the twentieth century. The lot pairs an oval divided vegetable dish with a gravy boat on an attached underplate, both worked in the pattern's signature hand-painted pink wild roses, green foliage, and brown thorned vine along scalloped rims. The reverse carries the Franciscan / Made in California U.S.A. / Hand Decorated / Gladding, McBean & Co. / Oven-Safe backstamp.
Made in Glendale, California, Desert Rose was painted freehand over a warm cream earthenware body, giving each piece slight individuality in the brushwork. The divided dish suits a two-vegetable presentation, while the gravy boat and fixed stand were designed as a single stable serving unit. Both remain workhorse forms for anyone building out or completing a Desert Rose service.
CONDITION
Excellent with no damage. Glaze is bright and the hand-painted decoration is crisp across both pieces.
