Franciscan Desert Rose Dinner Plates, Set of 12 — Made in California
A set of twelve Franciscan Desert Rose dinner plates in the hand-painted pink wild rose pattern that Gladding, McBean introduced in 1941. Each plate carries the signature embossed and hand-decorated border: pink blossoms with speckled yellow centers, green foliage, and the raised twig-and-thorn rim that defines the pattern. The reverse is marked FRANCISCAN / MADE IN CALIFORNIA with an impressed shape number.
Desert Rose remains the best-selling American dinnerware pattern ever produced, a fixture of mid-century California tables and still in steady demand for both service and replacement. The domestic "Made in California" backstamp places these in the earlier U.S. production run rather than the later English-made examples. A matched dozen makes a genuine table service rather than a scatter of survivors.
CONDITION
Excellent, no damage. Glaze is bright with no chips or cracks; hand-painted decoration is crisp across the set.
