Paul Bisson "Shalford Mill" Signed Aquatint Etching, 65/350
Paul Bisson (b. 1938, British) rendered Shalford Mill in Surrey with the patient, layered color work that defines his aquatint etchings — the tile-hung gable, the leaded casement windows, and the dark reflecting millstream all built up in careful registration. The print is signed in pencil lower right P. Bisson and titled and numbered lower left Shalford Mill 65/350, placing it within an edition of 350.
Shalford Mill is a National Trust-owned 18th-century watermill on the Tillingbourne, and Bisson's composition captures it in bare-branch winter light, the mill's timbered hoist bay and shingled upper storeys mirrored in the still water. Triple-matted with double fillet lines and professionally framed in a figured wood molding, the work presents cleanly under glass. A comparable Bisson "Shalford Mill" etching realized 43% above mid-estimate at auction, March–April 2024.
CONDITION
Very Good. The print and matting present clean and bright. Small scratches and chips throughout the frame consistent with age-appropriate handling wear; the artwork itself is unaffected.
