Folk Art Iron Mirror with Horseshoes, Arrows & Painted Serpents
A rectangular wall mirror set within a heavily worked iron frame, the surround assembled from repurposed horseshoes, hand-cut sheet-metal serpents, arrowheads, and chevron-fletched arrow motifs. The inner frame carries a naturally oxidized, mottled patina in warm rust and verdigris tones, while the applied elements are hand-painted in soft greens, ochre yellows, cobalt blues, and touches of red, many stippled with dotted detailing. Scrolled horseshoe terminals anchor each corner, and welded serpentine ribbons wind along all four sides.
The piece reads as one-off metalwork — a maker's assemblage rather than a production item, drawing on cowboy-and-frontier iconography in the horseshoes and knapped-style arrowheads. The frame is unmarked.
CONDITION
Very Good, Patinated by Design. The oxidized surface and painted finish are intentional to the maker's aesthetic, not deterioration. Mirror plate is clean and clear.
