Pioneer A-8 Non-Switching Stereo Integrated Amplifier, Champagne Gold
The Pioneer A-8 is an integrated stereo amplifier from Pioneer's early-1980s champagne-gold era, built around the company's Non-Switching amplifier topology — a design intended to eliminate switching distortion by keeping the output devices continuously conducting across the full audio cycle. The full-width faceplate carries dedicated Treble and Bass knobs, a large center Volume dial, push-button source selection for Phono, Tuner, Aux, Tape 1, and Tape 2, plus a Muting (−20dB) switch and a front-panel headphone jack. A hinged flip-down panel conceals a secondary control cluster: Rec Out Selector, phono MM/MC loading (High/Low for each), Mode (Stereo/Mono), Speaker A/B, Loudness, and Subsonic Filter.
The center fascia groups a signal-flow diagram above a stepped Output Power LED meter calibrated from 0.001W to 100W at 8Ω, with Protection and Muting status indicators below. Rear connectivity is comprehensive: Phono (with ground post), Tuner, and Aux inputs; two full tape loops with independent Rec/Play switching; A/B speaker binding posts; and switched and unswitched AC convenience outlets. Pioneer rated the A-8 at 80 watts per channel continuous (8Ω, 20Hz–20kHz), with a total harmonic distortion spec of 0.005% — figures that put it near the top of the integrated amplifier class at its 1981 introduction. The chassis is marked Model No. A-8, Pioneer Electronic Corp., Made in Japan, serial CC3602859S.
CONDITION
Good and fully functional. Tested; powers on and all functions operate. Fading and light scuffing to the champagne-gold top cover, with scratching to the hinged flip-down door panel; no remarkable damage otherwise. Original two-prong power cord present.
