Marden Furniture Frank Lloyd Wright-Style Carved Walnut Low Credenza, 1960s
A low-profile Mid-Century Modern credenza in walnut with a warm honey-brown finish, attributed to Marden Furniture of Chicago and executed in the design vocabulary of Frank Lloyd Wright. Four doors with recessed panel fronts open on paired hinges to two compartments, each fitted with a single adjustable shelf. The defining feature is a continuous carved quatrefoil rosette frieze that bands the fascia below the top and wraps the corner stiles on all four sides — a direct nod to the geometric ornamental programs Wright brought to his Usonian and Taliesin work. Doors carry brass bail pulls on octagonal backplates; the piece rests on a plinth base with small corner feet.
Marden produced quality case goods for the mid-century decorator trade, and this credenza reflects that standard: matched-grain door panels, solid walnut construction, and a fully finished back panel that allows for floating placement. At 69½" wide and only 18" deep, the horizontal form works equally well as a media console or entryway credenza. .
CONDITION
Good with no damage. Finish is warm and even throughout, with light handling wear consistent with age. Doors operate correctly on their paired hinges and the adjustable shelves are present.
