Sterling Silver Reticulated Compote by Rogers, Gadroon Rim
A footed sterling silver compote by Rogers, marked to the underside "ROGERS / STERLING / WEIGHTED REINFORCED / 202 40." The shallow bowl is genuine sterling throughout, with a pierced reticulated band running just inside the rim, framed by a cast gadroon-and-bead border that repeats on the spreading pedestal foot. The weighted reinforced base lends the piece the stability expected of a raised serving or display dish without sacrificing the lightness of the sterling form above.
Weighted sterling hollowware of this type pairs a sterling shell with a filled, reinforced base — a mid-century solution that kept forms graceful while managing material cost without compromising the silver itself. The reticulated bowl and doubled gadroon borders place this squarely in the traditional sterling tableware vocabulary, well suited to fruit, nuts, or confections at the center of a set table.
CONDITION
Good. Surface shows scratches and tarnish throughout consistent with age and use — we'll leave the polishing to you. Borders and reticulation remain crisp; the foot is stable.
