Sterling Silver Reticulated Compote by Rogers, Gadroon Rim
A footed sterling silver compote by Rogers, marked to the underside "ROGERS / STERLING / WEIGHTED REINFORCED / 202 40." The shallow bowl is genuine sterling throughout, with a pierced reticulated band running just inside the rim, framed by a cast gadroon-and-bead border that repeats on the spreading pedestal foot. The weighted reinforced base lends the piece the stability expected of a raised serving or display dish without sacrificing the lightness of the sterling form above.
Weighted sterling hollowware of this type pairs a sterling shell with a filled, reinforced base — a mid-century solution that kept forms graceful while managing material cost without compromising the silver itself.
