Lullaby Sterling Silver Baby Rattle Dumbbell, 1945
A classic sterling silver baby rattle in the dumbbell form, marked Lullaby Sterling 1945. Two domed, hollow bells sit at either end of a spiral-twisted central handle sized for a small hand, each bell holding loose beads that give the rattle its sound. The compact silhouette and polished bells are typical of mid-century American christening and nursery gifts.
Sterling rattles like this were common presentation pieces for births and christenings in the 1940s, often engraved and kept as family keepsakes long after the nursery years. The 1945 date mark ties this example squarely to the wartime nursery-gift tradition.
