Tapestry Pattern Silverplate Art Nouveau Twin-Handled Rose & Bird Vase
A tall, tapering hexagonal vase in the Tapestry pattern by Barbour Silver Co. for the Meriden Britannia / W.B. Mfg. Co., silverplate over a nickel-silver base. The all-over acid-etched decoration is the pattern's signature: dense wild roses, briar blossoms, thorned stems, and foliage worked to a matte-and-bright contrast, with a small perched bird tucked into the upper register. Two long, squared-off Art Nouveau handles sweep from the shoulder to the lower body, framing the elongated form.
The Tapestry line, introduced in the early twentieth century, took its name from the textile-like density of its etched surface — a distinctly American answer to European Secessionist and Jugendstil metalwork of the period. The underside carries the full maker's group: PAT. APPL'D FOR U.S.A., the Tapestry trademark script, B.M. MTS., MADE IN U.S.A., the E.P. / W.B. Mfg. Co. / N.S. shield, and pattern number 3539.
CONDITION
Good. No remarkable damage; surface shows tarnish and toning throughout with areas of iridescent bloom to the plate. We'll leave the polishing to you.
