Cast Iron Rococo Tilting Vanity Mirror, White Enameled Finish
A cast iron table-top vanity mirror in the Rococo Revival taste, finished in glossy white enamel over a heavily foliate frame. Scrolling acanthus and pierced C-scrolls wrap the oval plate, gathering into a floral crest at the top and cascading into a swept, footed base. The mirror pivots on two side pins, letting the glass tilt to catch the light. The reverse is stamped JM5.
Cast iron dressing mirrors of this form were popular late-Victorian through early-20th-century toiletries, made to sit on a bureau or washstand. The lively molded ornament and swiveling frame are typical of the period's ornamental ironwork, here brightened by a later white enamel coat that plays up the crisp casting detail.
CONDITION
Good with no remarkable damage. The glass is clear and the frame casting is crisp throughout. Water marks are present on the mirror backing paper as shown in the reverse reference photo.
