Gunter Kron Mid-Century Ceramic Table Lamp with Original Drum Shade, c. 1955–65
A mid-century American table lamp by Gunter Kron, standing a substantial 31 inches to the top of its shade. The ceramic base pairs a cream/ivory glazed tapered column and stepped foot with a ribbed melon-form lower globe in a warm brown drip glaze. Applied gold luster relief bands in a chain-and-nugget motif repeat up the shaft, crisp and intact across the most fragile decorative element.
The lamp retains its original drum shade — cream fiberglass-type fabric with a scattered gold metallic thread print and gold trim binding, period-correct to the base and a genuine value driver, since replacement shades routinely diminish mid-century lamps. Brass harp fittings are intact. The style sits squarely in the Hollywood Regency / atomic-era vocabulary that furnished late-1950s and early-1960s ranch and tract interiors, and the survival of both base and shade together in undamaged condition is what distinguishes this example from the many generic unmarked ceramics of the period.
CONDITION
Good and fully functional; tested and working. No remarkable damage to base or shade, with the gold luster banding showing no heavy wear. Original shade is intact with its metallic print and trim binding present.
