Sherwoods Ltd. Copper Wall-Hanging Kerosene Lamp with British Star Hinge Burner
A wall-mounted copper kerosene lamp combining function and simple hand-worked form, with a flat back plate that hangs from a brass ring or stands free on its footed base. The oval reservoir is fabricated from copper with soldered seams and holds a clear glass hurricane chimney above the burner. The burner assembly is a British Star Hinge Burner, the domed wick cover embossed with the mark, and the perforated flame spreader draws combustion air through its ring of holes.
The knurled wick-adjustment wheel is stamped SHERWOODS LTD. BHAM, identifying the Birmingham, England maker of the burner hardware. The hinged burner opens for wick trimming and refilling, and a fabric wick remains in place. This is the kind of practical lighting that moved between kitchen, hallway, and barn — hung on a nail where the light was needed, lifted down and carried by the base when it wasn't.
CONDITION
Good with age-appropriate wear throughout. Denting to the copper reservoir and surface patina consistent with age and use. Glass chimney is intact; wick and hinged burner mechanism are present and operate.
