1970s Peruvian Folk Art Hand-Woven Wool Tapestry — Andean Colonial Street Scene
A large hand-woven wool wall hanging depicting an Andean colonial street scene — figures in traditional dress, a laden donkey, and tile-roofed buildings climbing a cobblestone lane in receding perspective. The construction is a wrapped/coiled wool technique: each weft row is a thick wool bundle bound tightly with finer thread, producing the ridged horizontal texture that runs the full 70-inch length. The palette holds to natural cream, terracotta, rust, brown, and black, consistent with naturally dyed or minimally processed wool. No maker's mark or workshop label is present.
This is 1970s vintage hand-woven Peruvian folk art wool, attributed to the Andean highland tradition — construction consistent with Ayacucho or Cusco-region workshop production during the folk art export boom of the 1960s–70s.
