Black On Black
Pauline Marie Bourdon, or “Vine Flowers,” learned pottery making from her mother, Birdell Bourdon. She began her professional career as a potter at age 17 and continues making pottery in the traditional hand-coiled, stone-burnished method. She fires her pieces outside and uses the “oxygen reduction” process to create her black pieces. Her favorite designs are wedding vases, engagement baskets, melon bowls, and animal effigies. Occasionally she inlays a piece of turquoise in her work.
