Description

1939 U.S. Army Footlocker by American Hardware Co. — Corbin Lock, 2 Keys, Pioche Provenance

Crafted on the eve of global conflict, this U.S. Army footlocker was manufactured by the American Hardware Company under contract W199-Q.M. 17751, dated October 12, 1939. Bearing Spec No. 23-79-C and Stock No. 26-L-294, it was issued through the Chicago Quartermaster Depot, serving as a steadfast companion to a soldier through the trials of World War II.

Constructed with durable materials, the trunk features a classic olive drab finish, reinforced black metal trim, and robust leather side handles. Its security is ensured by a brass lock stamped "Corbin Cabinet Lock Co. C513, New Britain, Conn," accompanied by two original keys—a testament to the enduring quality of American manufacturing.

Inside, a removable tray offers organized storage, while the exterior tells its own story. A Railway Express Agency label is still affixed to the front .

This footlocker is more than a storage piece; it's a tangible narrative of service, resilience, and homecoming. Whether displayed as a historical artifact or repurposed for modern use, it stands as a tribute to a pivotal era in American history.

Condition:
In excellent condition for its age, exhibiting minor scratches, scuffing, and finish wear consistent with military use. A 3" chip is present on the tray divider, and a vintage sticker adorns the front. Light newspaper residue is visible inside, but the original leather handles remain intact, and the lock functions smoothly with both included keys.

Size:
13 x 31 x 17 inches (Height x Width x Depth)
