Susano Morales Alebrije Ram – Hand-Carved Copal Wood, 10.5" Folk Art
Vibrant hand-carved alebrije ram by Oaxacan artisan Susano Morales, renowned for his dynamic wooden sculptures rooted in Zapotec folk art traditions. This expressive piece features bold details: spiral black-and-purple horns, bright yellow underbelly, and multi-colored hooves with fine painted texturing throughout the body.
Expertly crafted from copal wood, the figure is hand-painted and signed “Susano Morales” on the side. The ears and tail are removable, a traditional feature for transport and assembly. The ram’s posture, caught mid-leap, adds energy and movement to its form.
A distinctive example of contemporary Mexican folk art, ideal for collectors or as a bold decorative accent.
Condition
Good overall with light shelf wear. Visible joint lines are present, and one hoof has a small imperfection, as shown. Paint remains vibrant, and the structure is sound.
