15" Large Tonalá Pottery Quail — Hand-Painted Folk Art, Signed “Mexico C.O.”
A rare and impressively scaled Tonalá-style ceramic quail from Mexico, hand-crafted and richly painted in traditional folk motifs. This substantial decorative piece is a standout example of mid-century Mexican pottery, signed on the underside Mexico C.O.
Molded in the form of a stylized quail, the vessel features exquisite hand-painted details in earthy brown, cobalt blue, and forest green, set against a cream slip. Decorative flourishes include floral sprays, dotted plumage, and a detailed secondary quail motif on the breast — all hallmarks of the renowned Tonalá ceramic tradition.
At 15 inches tall and over 10 lbs, this piece is unusually large for its type — a rare scale not often encountered. It serves as a striking centerpiece, blending rustic charm with collectible folk artistry.
