Jacobean Revival Carved Walnut Sideboard by John Stuart – 1940s, Brass Accents
This stately walnut sideboard was crafted by John Stuart, Inc., a distinguished American furniture maker known for high-end revival pieces in the early to mid-20th century. Designed in the Jacobean Revival style, it showcases boldly carved diamond and roundel motifs, turned bun feet, and a rich walnut veneer—blending 17th-century English inspiration with 1940s American refinement.
The sideboard features two dovetailed drawers (one fitted with a divided flatware compartment), and four paneled cabinet doors. The central pair opens to reveal a fixed half-depth shelf (approx. 12.4" clearance) with carved wooden pulls, while the flanking doors provide ample additional storage. Original brass-tone hardware complements the dark finish. A stencil and partially intact interior label confirm its John Stuart origin, likely part of a mid-century dining suite.
Ideal as a formal dining room buffet, entryway credenza, or bar cabinet, this piece offers both decorative character and functional appeal.
