Paleolithic Flint Hand Axe – 7" Acheulean Biface Tool
A substantial Paleolithic flint hand axe, measuring 7 x 3 ½ inches and weighing 13.7 oz. Expertly knapped on both faces, this bifacial tool features broad flake scars, a tapered working point, and a rounded base, with clear evidence of deliberate shaping. Crafted from grey-brown flint, its form reflects the hallmark design of Acheulean hand axes, among the earliest and most enduring tool types of humankind.
Hand axes of this style were used for chopping, cutting, and scraping tasks, and represent a cornerstone of early human technology. Their presence spans much of the Lower and Middle Paleolithic (approximately 1.7 million to 300,000 years ago), and this example demonstrates both practical utility and the skill of its maker. An evocative piece of early human history, suitable for collectors, educational study, or display.
Condition
Good condition for its age, with expected surface wear, mineral deposits, and minor edge losses consistent with antiquity. Knapping marks remain well-defined, and no modern repairs are evident.
