Description

1952 Westside Cabinet Shop Las Cruces Handcrafted Pine Storage Cabinet

A piece of Las Cruces craft history, this single-door storage cabinet was built on September 26, 1952 at the Westside Cabinet Shop in Las Cruces, New Mexico — the date, shop name, and original $15.00 price written in red crayon across the plywood back. Solid wood construction throughout, with a pine frame, tongue-and-groove plank door faced in a contrasting darker panel, and original nickel-plated surface-mount hinges and latch. The interior holds five fixed shelves at varying heights — useful for stacking books, pantry goods, sewing supplies, or shop materials.

Local hand-built cabinets like this one rarely surface with their maker's marks intact.

Provenance

Made at the Westside Cabinet Shop, Las Cruces, New Mexico, dated 9-26-52 on the reverse with original sale price of $15.00 inscribed by the maker.

CONDITION

Good with age-appropriate wear throughout. Construction remains sturdy and the door operates on its original hinges and latch. Chips along the bottom edges of the sides, minor surface marks and finish variation consistent with seventy-plus years of household use.
