Victorian Walnut Oval Tilt-Top Parlor Table on Casters, Late 19th Century
A late 19th-century Victorian parlor table with an oval top of figured walnut raised over a sculptural pedestal base. The top edge is finished with a stepped molded lip, and the underside shows the warm patina and oxidized character of long-standing antique furniture. The pedestal is built from four scroll-cut lyre-form supports flanking a central turned column with darkened ebonized accents, terminating in a turned drop finial. Four cabriole-style scrolled legs sweep outward from the base, each ending in a small porcelain-and-brass cup caster.
Construction is solid wood throughout, unmarked by maker. The form draws on the Renaissance Revival vocabulary popular in American parlor furniture of the 1870s–1890s, where pierced bracket pedestals and ebonized highlights signaled refinement without the bulk of full Eastlake casework.
CONDITION
Good and sturdy overall with age-appropriate wear. The top shows scratches, scuffs, and visible signs of use across the surface, including faint incised marks. Base, pedestal, and legs remain tight; casters are intact and original in appearance with light wear to the porcelain wheels.
