Description

Large Nefertiti Bust Wall-Mount Sculpture, M Design 2000, Philippines

A substantial wall-mountable bust reproducing the iconic likeness of Queen Nefertiti, the Great Royal Wife of Pharaoh Akhenaten, after the celebrated limestone original sculpted by Thutmose c. 1345 BCE and now held in the Neues Museum, Berlin. Executed in fiberglass with hand-painted polychrome and gilt finish, the piece captures the queen's signature flat-topped blue crown — here rendered in deep black with a banded coronet of inlaid red and green rectangles — crowned by the rearing gilt uraeus cobra at the brow. The face is finished with porcelain-like flesh tones, lined kohl eyes set with blue irises, painted brows, and red lips. A broad gilt-and-jeweled wesekh collar caps the shoulders.

The reverse is flat and finished in matte black, fitted with a metal keyhole hanger for wall display. The lower back edge bears an impressed maker's cartouche reading "M Design © 2000" alongside a printed Q.C. label "Made in the Philippines / Leopoldo Vasquez." A decorative reproduction made for interior display, drawing on one of the most reproduced portraits in the history of art.

CONDITION

Good. Scratches, chips, and scuffing throughout the painted surface, with craquelure and minor paint chipping at the nose, cheek, and base of the neck where fine cracks are present in the finish. No remarkable damage; displays well. Wall hanger intact on reverse.
