Mid-Century Bentwood Sewing Basket Stand with Floral Fabric Liner
A charming bentwood sewing or work basket on a splayed tripod stand, likely European in origin and dating to the mid-twentieth century. The slender vertical staves bow outward to form a tulip-shaped basket, capped by a turned hoop rim and anchored to a small turned disk at the base. Three gracefully curved sabre legs extend from the disk in a tripod arrangement, giving the piece a light, sculptural silhouette reminiscent of Italian and Scandinavian work of the period.
The interior is fitted with a removable drawstring fabric liner in olive green printed with small pink and orange floral sprigs — a cheerful cotton print consistent with 1960s–70s textiles. The liner ties to the rim with green grosgrain ribbons threaded through the staves and lifts out for cleaning or replacement. Marked with a handwritten "4570" in ink on the underside of the base disk. A pleasing form for use as a yarn keeper, sewing basket, magazine holder, or decorative planter sleeve.
CONDITION
Good overall and structurally sturdy. Light surface scuffs and minor age marks to the bentwood frame consistent with use; fabric liner is clean and intact with its original ribbon ties present. Tested for stability — sits level on the tripod base.
