Description

Clyde Harwick Brutalist Torch-Cut Metal Flower Sculpture, Copper, Steel & Brass

A freestanding Brutalist floral sculpture in the torch-cut metal tradition popularized through the 1960s and '70s, built from copper tubing, steel, and brass. The blackened steel bloom rises on coiled copper stems above brass leaves, each element shaped with flame-cut, irregular edges and beaded weld seams that catch the light. One upper petal retains a raw silvered finish against the matte-black majority, with scattered brass-tone scorch passages at the flower's center where the metal was worked hot.

Signed Clyde Harwick on the base. The looping copper-tube base coils into a stable oval foot, integrating the brass lower leaves into the support structure. The hand-torched construction and mixed-metal palette place it squarely within the studio metalwork aesthetic of the era, scaled for tabletop or shelf display.

CONDITION

Good. Scuffing and signs of display throughout, with minor scuffing to the painted steel surfaces; one small light-colored mark to a black petal. No remarkable damage. The patina variation across the brass and copper is consistent with age and original torch work.
