Ulrich Walter D-2 Spacelab Astronaut Signed Color Portrait — Inscribed "To Bill"
Signed color portrait of Dr. Ulrich Walter, the German physicist and payload specialist who flew aboard Space Shuttle Columbia on the STS-55 / D-2 Spacelab mission (April 26 – May 6, 1993). Walter is shown in his orange launch-and-entry suit with the German flag patch at the shoulder and the D-2 crew patch on the chest, the Space Shuttle stack and U.S. and German flags arranged behind him. The portrait is boldly signed in black marker across the suit and inscribed "To Bill" in the lower border.
The reverse carries Walter's printed biographical card in German, listing his selection as a German science astronaut in 1987, his DLR training at Köln-Porz, the D-2 mission, his leadership of the German Satellite Image Archive project, and his later role at IBM Deutschland, along with a list of his publications. The card format identifies this as one of the portraits Walter distributed during his post-mission career.
Authenticity
A Certificate of Authenticity from Mesilla Valley Estate Sales will be issued with this lot.
CONDITION
Very Good. The signature and inscription are bold and clearly legible. Light handling overall; printed biographical text on the reverse is clean and fully readable. Reverse shows minor scattered specks at lower edge.
