Primitive Painted Two-Door Pine Storage Cupboard with Bootjack Feet
An antique two-door storage cupboard in solid pine with a paneled construction and a well-worn painted case. The two frame-and-panel doors sit within a plain frame, each retaining exposed iron hinges and centered on a turned wood-and-porcelain thumb-turn latch. The old surface — layered cream and buff over earlier blue and green — has crackled, flaked, and worn down to bare wood across the case, sides, and door panels, the kind of honest wear that comes from decades of working use. Bootjack cutouts at the sides form the feet, and the vertical board-and-batten back is finished in a warm natural tone.
Inside are two fixed shelves over a plank bottom, giving three usable compartments behind the doors. The 3/4" thick plank top has been restored and refinished to a rich walnut-brown, its breadboard-style edging and grain now reading crisp against the untouched painted base — a deliberate contrast that lets the aged paint stand on its own. A useful, low-slung form that works as a sideboard, kitchen island base, or media console.
CONDITION
Good with authentic rustic character throughout. The painted case shows extensive fading, flaking, and finish loss down to bare wood — original distressing, not damage — along with age-appropriate splits and shrinkage cracks to the boards. The plank top has been restored and refinished; hardware is old and intact, and both doors and hinges operate.
