German Cut Crystal Pinwheel Beer Steins with Pewter Lids, Set of 4
A set of four lidded beer steins in cut crystal, each in the barrel-form profile with a hinged pewter lid and applied crystal handle. The bodies carry a deep-cut pinwheel-and-fan motif framed by pointed arch panels and cross-hatched diamond fields, the star-cut bases catching light through the whole vessel. The pewter lids are plain-domed with thumb-lift mounts; two styles are present across the set — three with a turned urn-form finial and one with a ball finial.
The lidded stein format descends from Central European brewing tradition, where a hinged cover guarded the pour. Here the tradition meets high-clarity leaded glass and the geometric pinwheel cutting that ran through Bohemian and German glasshouses across the twentieth century. The lids and glass are unmarked. Total of four pieces, sold together as a matched grouping.
CONDITION
Good with age-appropriate wear. No chips to the crystal. The pewter lids show shelf wear, light surface scratching, and minor spotting consistent with age and handling.
