Franciscan Desert Rose 31-Piece Set — 8 Teacups & Saucers, 8 Plates, 7 Glasses
A 31-piece service in Franciscan Desert Rose, the hand-painted California earthenware pattern introduced in 1941 and among the most enduring American dinnerware lines of the 20th century. The set pairs eight teacups and eight saucers with eight bread-and-butter plates, each rendered in the signature scheme: pink wild-rose blossoms, green foliage, and hand-glazed brown twig borders on a warm ivory ground. The teacups carry the characteristic molded twig handles. Backstamps read Franciscan / Made in California U.S.A. / Hand Decorated / Oven-Safe, Gladding, McBean & Co.
Rounding out the lot are seven coordinating glass tumblers screen-printed with the matching Desert Rose floral band — companion barware produced to extend the pattern beyond the table. Together the ceramics and glassware make a ready service for a full table, with the twig-handled cups and scalloped plates showing the sculptural molded detail that defined the line under Gladding, McBean's Los Angeles production.
CONDITION
Excellent throughout with no damage. Ceramics retain crisp hand-painted decoration and glaze; glass tumblers are clean and bright.
