Zuni Carved Red Pipestone Bear Fetish with Medicine Bundle
This bear knows where it's going. Low to the ground, head down, weight forward — carved from a single piece of deep red felsite that takes the light like polished iron. Turquoise inlay eyes anchor the face; the reverse carries an incised feather pattern worked down the full length of the tail, the kind of detail a carver adds when they care about the side nobody sees.
Tied to its back is a complete medicine bundle — carved spiny oyster shell arrowpoints fanned beneath a raw turquoise nugget, flanked by coral fragments and strung heishi shell beads, the whole assembly bound in aged sinew and fiber cord that has gone the color of old brass. In Zuni cosmology the bear guards the West direction, and the bundle is the offering you give it to make it yours. This one arrived complete and intact. That matters.
CONDITION
Good with no remarkable damage. The stone surface retains its polish with minor handling marks consistent with age and use. Bundle wrapping is intact with age-appropriate oxidation to the cord; all bundle components are present and secure.
