Skookum Apples Crate Label — Lake Chelan Brand, Framed
Framed original Skookum Apples crate label in the Lake Chelan brand variation, produced by the Skookum Packers Association of Wenatchee, Washington, and distributed by the Northwestern Fruit Exchange. The label centers on the grinning Skookum character — the association's registered mascot — beside a red and yellow apple pair spelling out the brand's looping blue script. An inset vignette shows the Lake Chelan fisherman scene with snow-capped peaks, marked "Grown and Packed by Lake Chelan Growers Union, Chelan, Washington." The lower text carries the "Copyright S.P.A. 1918" registration line.
Skookum labels are among the most recognizable of the Pacific Northwest fruit-crate era, when growers' cooperatives competed for shelf appeal through bold lithographic color. The set is presented behind glass in a distressed dark wood frame with gilt inner liner. A framer's label on the backing reads Brush & Palette, 123 E. State St., Kennett Sq.
CONDITION
Good. The label shows bright, saturated color with light age toning. The frame carries visible finish wear and chipping to the gilt liner consistent with its distressed style; no remarkable damage noted. Glazed and ready to hang.Sheet may be trimmed or adhered at margins — not viewed out of frame.
