William M. Acheff Signed 1982 Still Life Lithograph, 449/1000
A limited edition color lithograph by William M. Acheff (b. 1947), the Alaskan-born, Taos-based photorealist known for trompe l'oeil still lifes that document Pueblo and Navajo material culture. The composition centers on a Pueblo polychrome jar with stepped and stylized bird motifs, set against a Navajo-style woven blanket in a red and turquoise stepped-chevron pattern. A Zuni-style carved stone bear fetish, eagle-pattern feathers, a carved prayer stick, and a small bow complete the arrangement, while an inset sepia Edward Curtis photograph of a Native figure anchors the upper register. Dated 1982 in the printed copyright notation, placing it in Acheff's peak photorealist period.
Hand-signed in pen lower right with the copyright line "©W.M. Acheff 1982," and numbered 449/1000 in pencil lower left. The subject matter draws together the full canon of Acheff's most collected iconography — polychrome pottery, textile, fetish, and ceremonial objects. His still life work is collected regionally across New Mexico, Colorado, and Texas. Professionally framed, double-matted, and glazed with an engraved plate.
