Antique American Pressed-Back Style Splat-Back Side Chair, Leather Seat
An early-20th-century wooden side chair in the classic American T-back form, painted in a soft cream that has worn through to bare wood across the crest rail, seat edges, and legs. The shaped crest sits above a vase-form center splat, with a scalloped lower back rail and gently splayed rear legs. The leather-covered seat panel is set into a shaped wooden frame, above a boxed stretcher arrangement of four turned front rungs and paired side and rear stretchers for rigidity.
Solid wood construction throughout, unmarked. The heavily worn cream paint gives the chair a farmhouse cottage character, showing decades of use across the seat and contact points. A practical accent chair for an entry, desk, or vanity, or a candidate for refinishing.
CONDITION
Fair with age-appropriate wear as shown. Paint loss and wear throughout, heaviest on the crest, seat, and legs. The leather seat panel shows surface wear and losses. Some loose wood parts noted; chair would benefit from re-gluing before regular use.
