Louis XV Style Marble-Top Kingwood Bedside Cabinet / Table de Nuit

A late 19th- to early 20th-century French Louis XV style bedside cabinet, or table de nuit, built as a solid frame with figured kingwood veneers laid in mitered quartered panels. The variegated rouge marble top is removable and sits above a single dovetailed drawer and a cabinet door, both fronts dressed with applied serpentine C-scroll moldings in the Rococo manner. The cabinet interior retains its original white marble bottom — a lined compartment measuring roughly 7" H × 12" W, the format used for a chamber pot or, as staff note, possibly a smoke stand.

The case rides on four carved cabriole legs with acanthus-carved knees and scrolled feet, joined by a shaped, scalloped apron. It is unmarked, as is typical for the trade-produced bedroom furniture that filled French households in this period. The applied scrollwork, quartered veneer, and marble fittings place it squarely in the mass of well-made revival furniture exported and sold through the era's cabinetmaking shops.

CONDITION

Fair, with age-appropriate wear throughout. There is chipped and missing veneer — including a lost section along the cabinet door's left edge and losses near the drawer scrollwork — plus general finish wear and loss. The top drawer shows a previous repair and its handle is absent; the drawer knob operates on a threaded post. Marble top and interior marble bottom are present, the lower marble showing staining. Sold as-is with the noted breaks and losses.
