English Campaign Chest, Drop-Front Cabinet, Brass Pulls, ca. 1880–1920
A campaign-style chest in the English or Anglo-Indian tradition, built from a warm tropical hardwood — likely mahogany — with two working dovetailed drawers over a concealed drop-front lower cabinet hidden behind what reads as a fourth drawer front. The matched brass bail pulls with beaded round bosses are consistent across all drawers and intact. Craftsman-made construction throughout.
The drop-front opens on a brass support arm to reveal a shallow storage well. The white-painted composite panel lining the inside of the drop-front door is a later replacement, secured with Phillips-head screws. Unmarked; no maker's stamp located.
CONDITION
Good with age-appropriate wear throughout. Scratches, chips, and staining are present across the surfaces, with heavy stain and discoloration in the interior — most notably the bottom cabinet and second drawer. Substandard restoration is present, including the later white-painted composite lining panel in the drop-front. Drawers and drop-front mechanism operate.
