Description

Drexel Biscayne Walnut Mid-Century Nine-Drawer Dresser & Mirror Set

A complete Mid-Century Modern bedroom pairing from Drexel Furniture Company, High Point, North Carolina, in the maker's Biscayne series. The double dresser is built of walnut solids and veneers with a warm, even tone across the top and drawer fronts. Nine drawers — a single wide drawer over three across the left bank, and four graduated drawers to the right — carry flat brass bar pulls with ball-end terminals, and the case rides on tapered legs finished with brass ferrule foot caps. Drawer construction is dovetailed, with drawer dividers included. The maker's mark is present: a burned brand reading "by Drexel Reg. Trade Mark" on a drawer interior.

The matching wall mirror repeats the walnut surround with an integrated lower display shelf and slim brass rod supports flanking the glass — a restrained detail typical of Drexel's contract-grade bedroom lines of the late 1950s through mid-1960s. An original Certificate of Inspection accompanies the set (Inspector No. 15, serial 065510), documenting factory-original condition at time of sale — the kind of paperwork that rarely survives with a piece and directly confirms its authenticity.

Significance & Rarity

The Biscayne series carries steady, consistent demand among Mid-Century buyers who favor warm walnut tones and disciplined brass detailing. What sets this set apart is completeness: a full, unmodified brass hardware suite — pulls, ferrule caps, and mirror rod supports — paired with surviving factory documentation. Complete matched sets with original hardware and paperwork sit at the upper end of the market for the line.

Inclusions
  • Nine-drawer double dresser
  • Matching wall mirror with lower display shelf
  • Original Certificate of Inspection
  • Drawer dividers

CONDITION

Good overall with age-appropriate wear throughout. The top shows scratching, scuffing, and finish wear with a few spots of finish loss (see supplemental reference images); brass handles carry light oxidation consistent with age. No remarkable damage; drawers retain their dovetailed structure and dividers.
