1930s Waterfall Art Deco Walnut Mirrored Wardrobe Chifferobe
An Art Deco waterfall wardrobe, or chifferobe, from the 1930s, combining bookmatched walnut veneers with a mirrored cabinet door and a bank of four dovetailed drawers. The rounded "waterfall" top edge, fluted quarter columns, and stepped bracket feet are hallmarks of the mass-produced Deco bedroom furniture that furnished American homes through the Depression years. The upper drawer front carries a marquetry inlay band of alternating diamonds and geometric elements, and each drawer wears a pierced brass Deco pull.
The left side opens to a full-length beveled mirror door concealing a hanging compartment fitted with a clothes rack and shoe rack, while the right side stacks four graduated drawers built with hand-cut dovetail joinery. The interior back is stamped CUT NO 26 / VNB NO 3632, a factory production notation. A practical, decorative piece from the golden age of the American waterfall suite.
CONDITION
Fair. The walnut veneers show scratching, chipping, and scuffing throughout, with veneer loss to the top and damaged veneers on several drawer fronts; a lifting/chipped corner is present on one drawer and finish flaking appears at edges and moldings. The beveled mirror is in Very Good condition. Drawers operate on their runners and the mirror door functions.
