Empire Sterling Silver Candlesticks, Pair — Gadroon-Edged Bases
A matched pair of low candlesticks by Empire, each stamped STERLING WEIGHTED and numbered 386 to the underside. Genuine .925 sterling silver sheet bodies — confirmed by the maker's mark — rise in tapered urn-form sockets from swept, dome-form stems onto broad oval feet finished with a bold gadrooned rope-and-bead border and stepped rim: a mid-century interpretation of classic Georgian tableware styling. The reinforced sockets take standard tapers.
As is standard practice for sterling weighted candlesticks, the silver bodies are packed with a pitch or plaster filler for stability — weight does not reflect silver content, but the sterling designation is genuine and confirmed at the base of each piece. They present as a cohesive, working pair with the honest surface character of decades of use.
CONDITION
Good. Surface tarnish and light scratches throughout, with darkening settled into the gadroon detailing and rim — we'll leave the polishing to you. Both stand square and stable.
