HUGE Arik Lenoy Kfar Azar Israel Fused Glass Charger — Solar Landscape, 1970s
A large kiln-formed fused glass charger by Arik Lenoy of Kfar Azar, Israel, dating to the 1970s. The rounded-square form carries a landscape-abstracted composition built from three distinct fields: radiating chevron bands in amber-brown across the lower left, horizontal sage-green stripes on the lower right, and a concentric-ring solar disc in yellow-gold and celadon at top center. The decorated face has a matte, granular texture that catches light differently across each color zone, while the underside reads smooth and glossy in profile. Unmarked, consistent with Lenoy production of this period.
Lenoy worked during the 1970s Israeli studio craft movement, producing decorative fused glass with abstract and landscape motifs from the moshav of Kfar Azar, near Tel Aviv. At 18.5 inches square, this piece sits well above the scale most often seen from his hand — smaller examples turn up regularly, but large-format chargers with this graphic strength are far scarcer. The desert-toned palette of earth, sage, and gold, paired with the rising solar disc, reads naturally.
Significance & Rarity
Scale is the primary asset here. Documented Lenoy pieces most commonly appear in the 10"–14" range; an 18.5" charger is exceptional and infrequent in the secondary market. The solar-disc-over-landscape composition is among the more sought-after of his abstract motifs, and the condition — excellent, with no damage — is significant for fused glass of this age and size, where edge chips and thermal cracks are common.
CONDITION
Excellent. No damage. Surface texture is original matte/granular on the decorated face, with a smooth glossy underside.
