Rococo Revival Gilt Cast Iron Easel Mirror, Beveled Oval Plate
A cast iron table mirror in the Rococo Revival taste, the openwork frame worked in deep C- and S-scrolls, acanthus, and clustered flowerheads rising to a scrolled crest. The oval plate is a true beveled mirror, held within a molded bezel and set on splayed scrolled feet with a folding rear easel strut for tabletop display. The gilt-painted surface carries a warm, aged tone across the high relief casting.
Cork bumper pads and hanging wire have been added over the years.
CONDITION
Good. No remarkable damage to the casting; the frame is solid and the easel strut functions. The mirror plate shows loss to the silvering with scattered spotting and clouding to the reflective finish. Gilt surface shows age toning and minor rubbing to high points.
