Fisher PL-6 Sound Panel Speaker Pair — "Woodland Watch" & "Staghunt"
A matched pair of Fisher PL-6 Sound Panels — functional loudspeakers engineered to disappear into a room as framed wall art, one of the more genuinely inventive ideas to come out of early-1970s hi-fi design. Each panel presents a screen-printed winter treeline in warm tan against deep navy blue, a full moon rising through bare branches — one moon rendered in cool silver-blue gradient, the other in warm cream — the composition signed Fisher in script at the lower right. The image is carried on a woven fabric substrate stretched across a wooden backer; a full-range driver mounts directly behind, using the fabric face itself as the acoustically transparent grille. No visible cone, no enclosure, no grille cloth to suggest anything other than a picture on the wall. Both panels are housed in wide, beveled walnut-veneered frames and hang horizontally.
The two titles are "Woodland Watch" (Model PL-6-D) and "Staghunt" (Model PL-6-C) — companion compositions sharing the same motif, format, and technical specification but differing in moon placement and palette, designed to complement one another across a wall. Each is rated at 50 watts music power and 25 watts RMS, compatible with amplifiers running 4–8 ohm loads, and manufactured in Argentina for The Fisher — the New York–founded audio brand that by this era had become a division of Sanyo. Fisher pitched the PL-series Sound Panels directly at the living-room problem: how do you put speakers in a space without making the space look like a listening room? The answer here is a winter nocturne in navy and gold that works as art whether it's playing or not. Original paper labels remain fully intact on both versos, carrying model designation, serial number, capacity, and impedance data. Frame construction is walnut-veneered particleboard with mitered corners and wire-hanger hardware on each panel.
CONDITION
Good overall as a decorative pair; untested — audio function not verified. The "Woodland Watch" panel has residue streaking across the moon area of the printed canvas face; it has not been determined whether this is surface residue or damage to the print itself. The "Staghunt" panel has several chips to the frame throughout, with one corner showing exposed particleboard beneath the veneer. Both frames show scattered nicks and edge wear consistent with age and prior hanging.
