Altec Lansing 879A "Santana" Slate-Top Loudspeakers, Pair — 15" Woofers, 1970s

A matched pair of Altec Lansing Model 879A "Santana" loudspeaker systems from the mid-to-late 1970s, walnut veneer over plywood with the beveled side panels and distinctive slate-textured tops that mark the series. Each cabinet carries the original factory label on the rear panel confirming model 879A, the "Santana" name, 8-ohm impedance, and serial number 1883, made in the USA. Behind the original black woven grille cloth with its stamped metal Altec script badge sits a 15-inch woofer paired with a separate rear-baffle tweeter/compression driver.

Altec Lansing built its reputation across professional and consumer audio from the 1940s onward, and the Santana series belonged to the company's home line of the mid-1970s — the pair sold new in 1977 for $660. Both drivers are tested and functional, with woofer cones intact. The matching serial-numbered factory labels confirm the pair is unmodified and in original configuration, the detail vintage hi-fi buyers weigh most heavily.

CONDITION

Very Good and fully functional; tested with strong sound output. Woofer and tweeter cones are intact and in good condition. Cosmetic wear includes a chip to the lower left side of one cabinet, and a chip to the top rear left corner plus the front bottom left corner of one cabinet; slate tops show surface wear consistent with age.
